San Francisco

Of all the vacations I've taken this year, the one I was most excited about was the one Michael and I took this past weekend to San Francisco.  I've never been and have been wanting to go for years, so when my friend Caitlin broke the news that she was getting married in SF, my RSVP was an unhalting yes.

I arrived Thursday morning and Michael Thursday night, so I took the afternoon to have lunch with a work friend and then headed straight to Alamo Square, known by its iconic Full House intro.  It was cold and windy and a much needed respite from the muggy weather Houston's been dragging.

That first evening I headed to Union Square to meet my study-abroad-roommate and host for the trip, Meris. Michael hadn't come yet so we got some good girl conversation in.

Meris, me, Michael

I did some shopping in SF... not good for the budget, and I'm tempted to classify my purchases as "vacation" rather than "clothes." Lies, I tell you!!

There was no shying away from getting good food.  Here, Michael's awesome granola and greek yogurt breakfast at Kitchen Story in the Castro... I was INTO IT.

One of the best parts of the trip was the amazing weather (okay, I may have done a little complaining that it was cold) and subsequent amazing run!!  This run was supposed to be 10 miles, but because I didn't know the route very well ended up being 12.  Changing a distance mid-run usually messes with my mind, but in the cold weather I ended the run feeling like I could have gone farther. It really boosted my spirits for NYC, where it's bound to be chilly.

Even though we were in SF, it was UT's biggest game of the season, so we found a Texas bar to watch.

Hook 'em!
 And then Caitlin got married!

I want her venue, which is a winery on Treasure Island.

Ultimately, I found San Francisco to be a more laid back, happier version of New York -- it's kind of like New York without the misery (is that unfair?).

Bye San Francisco!  Can I please come back?
